City Square Mall (CSM) is Singapore’s first eco-mall developed by City Developments Limited - one of Singapore’s most successful property developers with a remarkable track record and a pioneer in sustainability. The use of innovative construction methods saw the saving of 50 truckloads of sand, 8 Olympic-sized swimming pools’ worth of water, and 365 saloon cars’ weight in steel.
Its numerous features, including extended solar fins, louvres, and LED façade lighting, have enabled annual electricity savings of 12 million kWh, and reduction in CO2 emission of over 6,600 tonnes. This is equivalent to the amount of CO2 emission absorbed by 154,000 trees. The mall is the first retail space in Singapore to be awarded the top-tier Green Mark Pearl Prestige Award in 2018 by the URA, recognising its strong commitment in achieving greater environmental sustainability.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is Singapore’s national planning and land use authority. It operates under the Ministry of National Development and is responsible for the long-term physical development of Singapore.
The Master Plan is a statutory land use plan developed by the URA and reviewed every five years. It translates Singapore’s long term planning vision, as outlined in the Concept Plan, into a detailed plan that guides land use and development for the medium term.

As a nation of foodies, we are proud that Singapore’s hawker culture was successfully inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2020.
